Los Angeles Yacht Club founded 1901. Los Angeles Yacht Club’s mission is to bring its sailing heritage and tradition to everyone. Our ASA certified instructors will teach you to sail our 22’ Capris safely and confidently over five, 4-hour lessons.
LAYC offers ASA 101: Basic Keelboat Sailing as a 4-day certification course, open to both members and non-members. Classes are available on both weekends and weekdays and include a textbook, logbook, boat charter, testing and certification fees, and ASA-licensed captain.
At the end of this course, you will be able to skipper a 22-foot sloop-rigged keelboat by day in light to moderate winds (up to 15 knots) and sea conditions. This course includes knowledge of basic sailing terminology, parts and functions, helm commands, basic sail trim, points of sail, buoyage, seamanship and safety including basic navigation rules to avoid collisions and hazards
Private, non-ASA sailing lessons are also available to both members and non-members.
Located on scenic Catalina Island, our Howland’s Landing facility offers rustic amenities including shoreside bathrooms, an outdoor kitchen, and a variety of recreational equipment.
