The United States Sailing Center of Long Beach is administered by the Pacific Coast Sailing Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that promotes sailing in Southern California. Together, we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety, excellence, and accessibility in all of our programs and initiatives. Our partnership allows us to offer a wide range of sailing opportunities to people of all ages and abilities, while fostering a sense of community and love for the ocean.
We invite you to explore our website and learn more about the United States Sailing Center of Long Beach and the programs we offer. Whether you’re a seasoned sailor or a beginner, there’s something for everyone at our center. Thank you for your support!
The Basic Keelboat Program provides a comprehensive learn to sail experience for students with no sailing experience, and for those with some experience that want to build on their skills and obtain an official US SAILING Basic Keelboat Certification.
Students learn their on-the-water skills sailing on the beautiful waters of Alamitos Bay and Long Beach Harbor in keelboats from 20’–25’ in length. Our US SAILING Certified instructors are highly skilled in communication and seamanship and provide excellent instruction. Class sizes will be limited to 3–5 persons per instructor/boat in order to provide an ideal learning environment. Each day begins with a brief classroom lecture introducing students to new sailing related topics. The rest of the day is spent on the water, with hands-on teaching.
Once envisioned solely as a training site to help sailors fulfill their Olympic dreams, the United States Sailing Center at Long Beach has developed into a true center of training for sailors of every ability and from all parts of our community. Administered by the Pacific Coast Sailing Foundation, the Sailing Center offers sailors the skills necessary for success in the sport, from conducting developmental clinics and hosting of world-class regattas to coaching a number of area high schools and the USC collegiate sailing team.
Still, the Sailing Center does much more than just train sailors. Our programs include Youth At-Risk activities through local help groups, Learn-to-Sail classes for all ages and disabled sailing opportunities through the Sailing Center’s own Disabled Sailing Association.
Key involvement with the Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference, Southern California Youth Yacht Racing Association, Southern California Yachting Association, Pacific Coast Interscholastic Sailing Association and numerous national organizations including the United States Sailing Association are helping to improve, develop and grow the sport of sailing.
