Team Paradise Sailing is a 501(c) (3) founded in 2005 by US Olympic Gold Medalist sailor Magnus Liljedahl.
Make Sailing ACCESSIBLE for ALL! TRANSFORMING LIVES through the SPORT of SAILING. DIVERSITY, EQUITY & INCLUSION
Dedicated to changing lives by inspiring and empowering disabled and underserved communities, US Veterans, and others with recreational, educational, and healing programs through the sport of sailing
Our boats are adapted to fit the needs of the sailors. Participants are encouraged and enabled to help sail the boats vs. simply riding along as passengers.
Our fleet inventory allows us the ability to choose the right combination of equipment for the conditions. We perform in windy and challenging conditions. Cancellations are rare.
Our attitude is friendly and accommodating to our guests. We strive to deliver the best possible experience to everyone.
Our core values – FUN, EFFORT, RESPECT, STUDENT VOICE, and INCLUSIVE.
Our senior sailing instructor is a retired Coast Guard Captain. Our volunteer skippers include world-class sailors and top local talent.
Our robust outreach program is where we make the connection with our community and present our philosophy of how fish and birds correlate to the sport of sailing: "A fin in the water and a wing in the air."
As a US Sailing Accredited Community Sailing Center, Team Paradise provides access to sailing on Biscayne Bay for recreational sailing/therapeutic sailing/learning to sail race!
Team Paradise Sailing is a truly unique sailing organization that provides sailing opportunities and education for everyone at all levels of ability, including our disabled and under-served communities and US veterans. Programs are tailored to meet the needs of the individual, from beginners to advanced instruction, and we offer specifically designed programs for individuals with physical and/or intellectual-developmental disabilities. We are proud to work with youth from Miami’s under-resourced communities. Team Paradise will get you out sailing!
Team Paradise, a not-for-profit sailing organization, was founded in 2005 by Olympic sailor Magnus Liljedahl. After winning the gold medal in Sydney in 2000, Magnus felt the need to give back to the sailing community. He focused on training athletes with Paralympic ambitions and had great success, with podium finishes at the 2008, 2012, and 2016 Paralympic Games. When sailing was eliminated from Paralympic competition, the mission and focus of Team Paradise evolved and expanded, and Magnus began offering sailing for veterans with disabilities and youth with diverse backgrounds.
In December of 2014, Team Paradise moved its base of operations to the US Sailing Center. This move provided increased opportunities to promote diversity in the sport of sailing, and allowed for expanded programming to educate and inspire lifelong sailors from all backgrounds. Over the past several years, Team Paradise has developed key relationships with leadership from the City of Miami, Miami-Dade County and the US Veterans Administration, and has significantly increased service to the local community by introducing sailing to youth from the local nonprofit organizations.
